Martin Eekhof operates under the name Sportief Curacao. The aim of Sportief Curacao is to introduce the possibilities of Curacao for endurance sports to sportsmen and sportswomen from abroad. As I have a full time job, I offer my services only in the week preceding the bigger sports events on Curacao. This implies that I will only organize the activities mentioned on this website. The rest of the day you will have to entertain yourself. This will not be a problem because Curacao offers a lot of possibilities and I can inform you about the touristic and sports possibilities.
Introducing myself
I am 53 years old/young. I have lived in Curaçao from July 1998. I came here as a tax inspector within the framework of technical assistance of the Netherlands to the Curaçao tax inspectorate. After 4 years I would have had to return to the Netherlands. In order to be able to stay in Curacao I started working as a tax advisor. At the moment I work at BDO Galveras Netherlands Antilles B.V.
Running is my favorite endurance sport, but I also swim and mountain bike on a regular basis (as training for triathlons). I have skied cross country and roller skied at a reasonably high level. In 2006 and 2007 I participated in the Swedish Vasaloppet (90 km cross country). I have just started kayaking again.
Local circumstances
Keep in mind that it can be (very) hot in Curaçao. Your performance rate will be about 10% less than in cooler circumstances. At least, that is what many sportsmen/sportwomen who came here experienced. Drink a lot before, during and after any sports activity. Stay out of the sun during the day. Even in the shadow you will get a tan and can even get burned. Use a sun tan lotion with SPF 30 or higher.
